Sauna stones under 10 cm in size are suitable for electrically heated sauna heaters, and those over 10 cm are suitable for wood-burning heaters. The sauna stones should be stacked loosely in the heater to allow air to circulate between them. Careful stone arrangement also extends the lifespan of the heater's heating elements.

As top stones, white and rounded Tulikivi Deco White decorative sauna stones or sawn, classic grey soapstone sauna stones can be used on top of split-faced sauna stones. Thanks to the heat retention capacity of soapstone, soapstone sauna stones provide a very soft and pleasant steam. The use of ceramic sauna stones in Tulikivi heaters is prohibited.
